This is roughly one of the ideas I have thought about using in my memoir for English.
It was now the second round of sectionals, and after a reluctant win over Heritage in the first round, my nerves were at a new all time high. I was warming up to the side of the dugout, swinging the bat i planned on using that game, as the sound of Nickelback's "If Today Was Your Last Day" was playing on the PA system. The tears kept welling up in my eyes, but the thought of crying was not an option. The thought of loosing this next game was horrible. I knew that once we lost, as a senior, I would be done. I'd have to put the cleats in the closet, and the bat in the garage. I wasn't ready to loose. I was determined to win.
The team I had been leading all season confidence has risen from the game before. There was now a sense of hope and desire. Everyone who I didn't feel believed in us before, I now had a different vibe from. This was our chance now. We were going to succeed.
This sounds like a great idea for your memoir assignment. Instantly i was drawn into your story. Great use of language and keeping your audience entertained throughout the memior. One comment, like our professor said, if you already know what your going to "learn" from this paper before you write it, it will not be good. So good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren:
ReplyDeleteGood details! For the memoir, it might be interesting to consider why you were so driven to win? Your parents? Your friends? Where did you get the desire to achieve and why was this game so important to you?
I felt the same way during sectionals. I though, "This could be that last baseball game that I ever play!" It gave me goosebumps just thinking about it. I knew the day was going to come when my high school baseball career was over. Well that day came in the first round of sectionals when our team (Perry Meridian) lost to Frankin Central 7-3. I tried out for the Ball State team and did not make the cut. Now I can look forward to slow-pitch softball.
