Dec 7 & Dec 9 = 3.5 hours

This week my group worked twice and we created our video and decided what was going to be put into the presentation.

We worked an hour and a half on Monday night, and we worked two hours on Wednesday preparing for our presentation on Thursday.

Dec 3, 2009

This week for our English project our group got together to work on Tuesday for an hour and worked on getting more information together. Yesterday when I started working on the script I decided to get more information to make writing the script easier. We decided that tonight (Thursday) we plan to work together on the script so we know where exactly to go with it. We have a lot of information to use, but now we need to finish the script and video and tie our project together for a presentation.

Learning Styles

After taking both learning styles quizzes I was not surprised with the results. I have taken a few quizzes like this before and my results have turned out to be roughly the same. I have had my results fairly close to each other. I think that it depends on the task and the topic and the question that is being asked. A few questions I could have choose more than one answer.

Too Early

As of right now it is 7:45AM on Thursday morning and it is TOO EARLY! I would just love another day to sleep in, but I am very ready for my classes to be done today. Tomorrow morning my little sister has surgery and I plan to be there. I feel as her big sister, being there for here is one of the best things I could do. I plan to head home today around 4:15 so that I can hang out with her for a bit before she goes in tomorrow. I am starting to get nervous for her. Tomorrow afternoon, Matt and I will be heading to IU for the IU/Purdue football game. I am very excited! I am an IU girl at heart. Not too mention I love football!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

11/17- 1 hour

Today my group worked our proposal that is due on Thursday, and we discussed the tasks that need to be done by each person.

We plan to each find research supporting our argument, and find a short video clip; together we will discuss the research and decide on a video clip to show. I will be writing the script for our commercial; then as a group we will all help edit the script. I will then tape the commercial that Tierney and Lindsay will be in. Tierney will then edit the video. As a group we will plan out what is going to be said in our presentation, and we will plan it out together what order or presentation will go in.

11/12/09 10 min

Project: My group is going to make a commercial about being against the H1N1 vaccination. This will be a commercial aiming towards young adults and adults with children. We want to raise awareness of the effects of the vaccination.

Today: We watched a few videos today for some examples, but they were a bit much for what we can do. We watched videos that raised awareness for teen reckless driving. The humor in those videos were appealing, but I am not sure it is appropriate with our topic to add humor.

Not Much Longer!

The next few weeks seems to have so much in store! It seems like all of the sudden I have a lot more to do. Getting through this week and next is the key. My little sister is having surgery next Friday and I am really nervous for her! As the big sister I feel I should be there for her. I am hoping that my History class won't have a quiz so that I can miss that class Friday to be at my sister's surgery! Friday afternoon, Matt and I will be heading down to IU for the IU/Purdue game. I am very excited for that weekend! Then two days of classes and it is Thanksgiving break! Ahhh! Just to get through the next week, and everything will be so much more relaxing!!

This weekend is coming and I am very excited! Since it is Thursday, some of my friends and I have decided to make Thursday's Movie/Girls night! I am pretty excited about this! Thursday is the night that Matt goes out with his friends, so I am making it the night I hang out with mine! I am really excited to see what the weekend has in store! Matt will be down on Saturday evening and a friend from high school is in town! This weekend will have to be a weekend of paper writing and power point making! One week closer to Thanksgiving! =] Happy Halloween everyone!

TGMondayIsOver!

Fall Break just went way too fast! It was probably one of the greatest weekends I have had in a long time. I actually went to my first party over the weekend. It was a Halloween party! My boyfriend took me to one of his friends house, and it was actually a lot of fun. It was more like a dance party! My boyfriend and most of his friends are 21, so I was definitely a youngin', but there were actually a few people there younger than me. It was really great to finally meet some of Matt's (my boyfriend) friends. We got to dance together for the first time, and it was a ton of goofy fun! =] While we were dancing Matt said to me, "Babe, I am glad you can have fun and not drink." I was really excited he could say that. I have never been a drinker or one who goes to parties, so I was glad he could acknowledge that. But now it is back to reality and time to get some work done. This Monday has felt like forever. I am pretty excited that it is over, but I am really not lookin' forward to waking up early tomorrow for English. Now it is time to count down until Thanksgiving! Bring it on! =]

Fall Break!

I am so thankful this week we have fall break this week. Although I only have one class on Friday's, still not having class at all is going to be great! Two of my three classes on Thursday have been canceled, and I would be totally astatic if my third class was canceled. It doesn't look like it will happen. =[

Have a good fall break everyone!!

News Article

Tuesday in English we were asked to look up an article on Ebsco, and find and international issue. I have found article relating to a man from Rwanda, Africa that taught at a college in the US. Rather than summarize five sentences, here in the article with the citation!

A professor at a Maryland college has been accused of genocide in his home country, Rwanda, and faces deportation, federal immigration officials said Friday. The professor, Leopold Munyakazi, 59, taught French at Goucher College in this city north of Baltimore until he was suspended with pay in December after the college learned that he had been indicted on murder and several genocide-related charges in Rwanda, according to court papers. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

URBINA, IAN "U.S. Professor Is Accused Of Genocide in Rwanda." New York Times 07 Feb. 2009: 14. Academic Search Premier. EBSCO. Web. 14 Oct. 2009.

Peer Review Question

The most helpful question on the peer review for me is the question about any comments from the person reviewing my paper. I like to know the feed back of what they think and feel of my paper. Sometimes reading what they have to say on all the asked questions can get disappointing, but when I can see just their own thoughts it brings some relief.

TGIF

TGIF! Today is my day with only one class! And I am all done! Yay! Sometimes the week feel like forever! But it is homecoming weekend and I am excited for the game tomorrow! This will be my first weekend here in two weeks, and I am a little excited about but I do miss the family and Matt.

I am pretty excited about next weekend. My sister will be coming down to Ball State for the first time! I can't wait to show her around! I miss her tons!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Ut oh!

Lately the weeks seem like they are going so fast! By the time Friday comes I realize I have yet to write my weekly blogs & comments! Oops! It is probably wise that I attempt to write every night so I won't keep missing my blog and comment deadline!

Currently it is Sunday night and I AM NOT looking forward to Monday. It is my longest day of the week and feels like the day drags out!

I am sorry for the most boring blog ever, but I am really unsure of what else to say!!

Have a good week everyone!!!

Would this song choice be better?

Please let me know if you think this song would be a better song choice....

“No Surprise”- Daughtry

I've practiced this for hours, gone round and round
And now i think that i've got it all down
And as i say it louder, i love how it sounds
'cause i'm not taking the easy way out
Not wrappin' this in ribbons
Shouldn't have to give a reason why

It's no surprise.. i won't be here tomorrow
I can't believe that i stayed til today
Yeah you and i will be a tough act to follow
But i know in time we'll find this was no surprise

It came out like a river, once i let it out
When i thought that i wouldn't know how
Held onto it forever.. just pushing it down
It felt so good to let go of it now
Not wrapping this in ribbons
Shouldn't have to give a reason why

It's no surprise.. i won't be here tomorrow
I can't believe that i stayed til today
There's nothing here in this heart left to borrow
There's nothing here in this soul left to save
Don't be surprised when we hate this tomorrow
God knows we tried to find an easier way
Yeah you and i will be a tough act to follow
But i know in time we'll find this was no surprise
Our favorite place we used to go
The warm embrace that no one knows
The lovin' look that's left your eyes
That's why this comes as no..
As no surprise

If i could see the future and how this plays out
I bet it's better than where we are now
But after going through this
It's easier to see the reason why

It's no surprise.. i won't be here tomorrow
I can't believe that i stayed til today
(stayed til today)
Yeah you and i will be a tough act to follow
But i know in time we'll find this was no surprise
Our favorite place we used to go
The warm embrace that no one knows
The lovin' look that's left your eyes
But i know in time we'll find this was no surprise
(and i hope.. and i hope.. and i hope.. and i hope.. and i hope..)

Song Choice

If Today Was Your Last Day- Nickelback

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last
Leave old pictures in the past?
Donate every dime you had, if today was your last day?
What if, what if, if today was your last day?

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the price is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you're never living twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past?
Donate every dime you had?

And would you call those friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories?
Would you forgive your enemies?
And would you find that one you're dreaming of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you'd finally fall in love if today was your last day?

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are

So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothing stand in your way
'Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past?
Donate every dime you had?

And would you call those friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories?
Would you forgive your enemies?
And would you find that one you're dreaming of
Swear up and down to God above
That you'd finally fall in love if today was your last day?

Its a little weird how this song seems to be coming into play. When we were told to come up with a song that could some how relate to the book we read over the summer, this was the first song that came to mind. Let me know what you think!

College Life

College life is sooooo much different than being in high school! Although I miss my family daily and the people important to me back home, I love having the chance to live on my own! When I go home I feel a new sense of freedom, and I feel like even more of an adult! This has been such and awesome experience so far!

About me

My name is Lauren Hall, and I am a freshman at Ball State University. I am an Elementary Education major. I hope to one day be a teacher in a fourth grade classroom. This past school year I interned with a fourth grade teacher near my high school and loved every minute of it. My ultimate goal is to be a high school softball coach. In high school I was an athlete. I played basketball my freshman and sophomore years, and volleyball and softball all four years. Not playing sports now is really hard for me because it was my hobby. I enjoy all sports though. Baseball, hockey, and football are a ton of fun to watch! I am a Cincinnati Reds fan, and an Indianapolis Colts fan. I enjoy listening to music! I like to listen to just about anything. I love to dance; although I am shy about it. I am usually a pretty shy person until I get to know someone. Being the center of attention is one of my biggest fears! I also am afraid of heights and snakes! (ewww gross!) I don't mind roller coasters and airplanes, providing they are moving. I have an amazing boyfriend, Matt. I couldn't ask much more from him. He is a ton of fun to be around, and he is my best friend. The hardest part about being at BSU, is missing my sister. I hate not being able to see her play sports. She has a true talent, and I wish I could be a part of it!

That is just a little insight about me. Feel free to ask any questions(within reason).

Option for my memoir

This is roughly one of the ideas I have thought about using in my memoir for English.

It was now the second round of sectionals, and after a reluctant win over Heritage in the first round, my nerves were at a new all time high. I was warming up to the side of the dugout, swinging the bat i planned on using that game, as the sound of Nickelback's "If Today Was Your Last Day" was playing on the PA system. The tears kept welling up in my eyes, but the thought of crying was not an option. The thought of loosing this next game was horrible. I knew that once we lost, as a senior, I would be done. I'd have to put the cleats in the closet, and the bat in the garage. I wasn't ready to loose. I was determined to win.

The team I had been leading all season confidence has risen from the game before. There was now a sense of hope and desire. Everyone who I didn't feel believed in us before, I now had a different vibe from. This was our chance now. We were going to succeed.

One Week Down! =]

I have now completed my first week of college! I can actually say I enjoy it! I do have my apprehensions about some of my classes. My biggest fear is communications. I have a huge fear of getting up in front of people. Being the center of attention is scary for me. I can play sports and be on the spot or in a tough situations, but speaking in front of people is a fear of mine.

On the up side, I am really excited about my first real weekend here at BSU. My roommate and I both have people coming to visit! I like to think of it as one huge sleep over in a very small room!  It's time to get the weekend started! Hope you all enjoy yours! =]
